Roman Catholicism in Serbia

The Catholic Church in Serbia is part of the worldwide Catholic Church, under the spiritual leadership of the Pope and Curia in Rome. There are 411,000 Catholics in Serbia according to the 2002 census, which is roughly 5.5% of the population,[1] mostly concentrated in Vojvodina.

Within Serbia, the Latin Rite Catholic hierarchy consists of:

  • Archdiocese
    • Diocese

The Diocese of Srijem is a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Đakovo-Osijek in Croatia. Kosovo is a UN-administered disputed territory that recently unilaterally declared independence; since 2000 it is under the Apostolic Administration of Prizren[6].

In addition, the Apostolic Exarchate of Serbia and Montenegro was established in 2002 for Eastern Catholic Christians of the Byzantine Rite.[7]
